Our Alpaca Yoga + Mat Pilates Teacher

Cari Rae Woodfield

Cari Rae Woodfield is a YA certified RYT-500 yoga instructor. She completed her training at The Yoga Bridge in Black Mountain, NC under internationally renowned master Ishanath, Marcel Anders-Hoepgen. She studied Hatha Yoga disciplines and philosophies, and focused on the Nath tradition and series’ during her advanced training hours. She received comprehensive training on both the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, as well as many meditation techniques.

In her career as a yoga teacher, she has worked extensively with a vast population of aspiring yogis, all with varying degrees of experience and focus. Her style focuses heavily on strength and body conditioning, using the breath to guide isometric poses and increase balance and flexibility, while also training the muscles to relax and build trust with the mind. She incorporates a blend of yogic styles, including Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Hatha, Kundalini, Yin, Restorative, Chair Yoga and more. She is highly adept at building perfectly paced flows for every level of practice, and has an intuitive understanding of how trust, pacing, breath, and belief in

oneself all play a collective role in preventing injury and preparing the body for newfound health and strength. She has trained many athletes including basketball players, professional dancers, martial arts practitioners, wrestlers, track & field athletes, and boxers. She has also worked with aging and wheelchair-bound students, including those living with Alzheimers and Dementia, using chair yoga classes and breathing techniques which are designed to strengthen focus and attention while stimulating regeneration for the sedentary body.
In addition to teaching yoga, Cari is also a Pilates and fitness class instructor, and a Bachata dance instructor. Her knowledge of movement and physiology in strength training and fitness, coupled with a deep sense of rhythm derived from Latin dancing, helped her growth as a yoga teacher immensely. Many of the same principles of energy, body awareness, breath control, trust and flexibility are incorporated in the gym and on the dance floor, as well as on the yoga mat! Earlier in her life she worked as a C.M.A., X-ray tech, E.K.G. tech, and phlebotomist, with six years of practice in professional health care settings. She believes her background in Western medicine, with focus on anatomy and physiology, helped prepare her to comprehensively grasp and easily apply the Eastern philosophies and disciplines found in Yoga.

Alpaca Yoga Classes We Offer

Ashtanga Vinyasa Level One

Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga involves a specific set of postures linked together by breath and movement. This is an ancient and powerful discipline for cultivating physical, mental, and spiritual health. Progressive techniques of breath, posture, and movement help to cleanse, stretch, and strengthen the body as well as focus and calm the mind. This level one class is appropriate for beginners. We will explore the foundational postures of the practice, and different asanas from the Primary Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga.

Gentle Yoga (Optional – Add Mat Pilates to your class)

This is a great class for complete beginners or experienced practitioners who desire a slower pace. We will focus on finding alignment and ease within the body and mind. Class will include various seated and standing postures, yogic breathing practices, simple guided meditation, and relaxation.
Optional: each Individual Student in Gentle Yoga Class can request from the teacher at the beginning of each class to incorporate Mat Pilates into their Gentle Yoga session.

Alpaca Mat Pilates Infusion

Incorporating Mat Pilates in your Gentle Yoga session will focus on strengthening and stretching exercises helping ease tight muscles, improving flexibility, and reducing tension throughout the body. It is well-known as a powerful way to fire up your core, but it also targets areas of the body in a low-impact, slow and deliberate focus. Perfect for all levels! We provide the Pilates Resistance Ring for you to use during class. We also sell them in our gift shop if you decide to buy one to use at home. You will need to bring your own Yoga or exercise mat, or you can rent or buy one from us.

We will practice basic yoga postures from a seated position in a chair or your wheelchair.
